St. Michael's Church in peaceful Kirkby Thore |
The village of Kirkby Thore is relatively undisturbed by tourist
pressures, yet is just 25 minutes drive from Ullswater in the
Lake District, and a little further to all the other Lake District
attractions.
The shop/Post Office (hot snacks) is 40yds away. Fast food outlets
in Appleby will deliver to the village. There are attractive
pubs nearby.
For walkers and cyclists there are many enjoyable routes close
to the village, and for gardeners a trip to the nearby National
Trust property Acorn Bank is a must!
|
Just four miles away is the delightful market town of
Appleby in Westmorland, famous for its traditional horse
fair held annually in June. Beyond Appleby is Kirkby Stephen
and the high Yorkshire Dales.
The historic City of Carlisle with its Cathedral, Castle
and shopping centre is about half an hour's drive away,
and Hadrian's Wall Country is closeby.
Appleby is a good place to join the Settle and Carlisle
Railway for the picturesque journey to Settle and back.
